The Mission of the Holmen Area Foundation is to serve as an active Community leader that supports:

The Holmen Area Foundation has donated over $1,000,000 to a variety of activities through scholarships and in-kind support.
The Halfway Creek Trail and Viking Field "The Pit" are the two major projects the Foundation committed to, using a collaborative approach to enhance the community. HAF committed over $250,000 each to these two community projects for a total of $500,000, along with sweat equity from board members, to guide these projects to fruition.

- 1992 - Initial conversation to potentially create an educational foundation with Dr. Fred Frick, Dave Skoloda, Marie Dummer, Larry Dittman, Trygve Mathison, Mike Drugan and Lloyd Dresen
- 1997 - Holmen Area Foundation created (see pages 1-2 of HHS 1998 Alumni Directory). Original Board had 14 Board of Directors:

- 1998 - HAF Alumni Committee established. Marie Dummer, Joyce Halvorson and Trygve Mathison researched and printed the HHS 1998 Alumni Directory. Copies available in HHS LMC and La Crosse County Library - Holmen Branch
- 2000 - Corporate sponsorships provided by employers of previous HAF board members
- 2000 - Sponsorship of Holmen's first Concerts in the Park series
- 2001 - First benefit event held: the Mike Schmitz Memorial 18 Holes for Holmen golf scramble, benefitting the Holmen Activities department
- 2001 - First legacy project began: upgrading Viking Field (The Pit)
- 2002 - Second legacy project began: Halfway Creek Trail
- 2005 - First Community Breakfast
- 2009 - Servant leadership criteria developed and first HAF Servant Leadership Award presented
- 2010 - Servant leadership criteria developed and first HAF Servant Leadership Award presented to Mike Schmitz
- 2014 - Random Acts of Kindness fund established for each school in the Holmen district
- 2015 - Updated vision and mission to expand impact on surrounding communities
- 2020 - Skogen BGC/Holmen Area Community Center opens after years of support from HAF
- 2022 - 25th anniversary and rebranding
