General Fund
The General Fund supports the overall growth and health of the Foundation. The General Fund also supports immediate needs and special projects in the community.
Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Fund
The Random Acts of Kindness Fund is designated through specific donations to provide money to each Holmen school building allowing for principals to determine its best use in supporting student needs. RAK funds help students overcome road blocks to achievement. Examples of RAK fund uses have included winter coats, boots, hats, mittens, transportation, and field trip fees.
Community Enhancement Fund
The Community Enhancement Fund was established to provide grants that strengthen and encourage charitable projects, making a difference in the quality of life for the area. Grant proposals are considered on the basis of how they will benefit the community with special emphasis given to grant requests including historical and cultural projects for social services, health, arts, leadership, conservation and preservation.
Holmen Viking Fund for Educational Excellence
The Viking Fund for Educational Excellence was established to award grants from the proceeds of the endowment to the teachers and staff at the School District of Holmen.
Scholarship Funds
Scholarships Funds enable individuals, families, companies and organizations to help students pursue their academic goals. The Foundation administers the scholarship and donors may choose to determine the guidelines. Recipients are selected by both school and Foundation representatives.
Pass-Through Funds
Pass-Through Funds are wholly expendable to grant recipients over a period of time as determined by the agreement between the donor and the Foundation. The funds may be discretionary or designated.
Unrestricted Funds
Unrestricted Funds are some of the Foundation’s most important, flexible resources to address the ever-changing needs of the community and allows the Foundation the greatest flexibility to award grants to projects or programs that have the greatest need at any given time.
Designated Funds
A Designated Fund allows the donors to select a specific charity to receive annual, long-term distributions of interest earned by the fund. The fund can be named after the donor. The Foundation regularly reviews the designated charities to make sure the grants to these groups remain relevant over time and responsive to changing circumstances.
Donor Advised Funds
Donor Advised Funds allow donors and a second generation to advise the Foundation Trustees on the distribution of the funds to specific eligible charities. The recommendations reflect the donor’s interests and the donor may make recommendations any time during the year. Donor Advised Funds may be Endowed, Pass-Through or Discretionary Funds.
Legacy Funds
Legacy Funds recognize individuals who wish to benefit our community through careful estate planning. It can be through a bequest in their will or by naming the Foundation as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy, retirement plan or trust. One of the best ways for individuals to handle a bequest is to write a letter to their personal representative and attach it to their will. Changes can then be made by rewriting the letter rather than redoing the entire will.
